What
is the MMRSL?
MMRSL stands for the Mississauga Mixed Recreational Slo-Pitch
League which is a slo-pitch league for adult males and females.
We are an affiliated group with Mississauga Parks and Recreation
and play games in the Mississauga area. The MMRSL was established
in 1989.
What
format is the league?
The league is currently split into three recreational groups,
simply known as Division 1,
Division 2 and Division 3. Depending on the total number of
teams in the League, we
sometimes have also had two groups. We used to have a Team
Entry Division (explained below), but due to a lack of interest,
there has been no such division for the last three years.
The Executive is assessing whether or not this division will
return.
Recreational
Division
All divisions are made up of 6 to 8 teams. The recreational
division was split into two divisions to keep broadening the
variety of opponents, but also to keep play at relatively
the same level - more competitive and fun. The division is
re-organized each year based on the number of teams playing
and to maximize the number of games played during the regular
season. In order to get onto a recreational division team,
you register with the league as an individual member and are
put onto an existing team.
Team
Entry
Team Entry is a division that was formed for those individuals
who have their own team put together and would like to enter
an entire team as opposed to joining as an individual. Historically,
teams in this division are of a higher calibre, ranking D
or C with SPN.
What
is the average age of the league members?
Most members are in the range of 24 to 38 years of age.
What
are the rules for the league?
The league uses the Slo-Pitch National rules and regulations
except for a few exceptions. Exceptions can be found in the
Bylaws section of this website.
Does
the league have umpires?
The MMRSL uses umpires that are carded by Slo-Pitch National.
Each of the games has one umpire and there are two umpires
used for the playoff semi-finals and finals.
Does
the league use a mat?
No, this league does not use a mat. The umpire makes the call
on the strikes and balls.
How
many games do you play in a year?
The amount of games varies slightly from year to year based
on the amount of teams in the league. Over the past few years,
we have played approximately 26-28 games in a season.
What
night of the week are your games?
The MMRSL has most games scheduled on Sunday nights and we
try to ensure that every team is playing on Sundays. Each
team may also play on a Tuesday night and will also have the
odd Monday night throughout the season for re-scheduled games.
Every Monday and Tuesday is available to the League and scheduling
each year determines the extent to which we have to play during
the week. We do not schedule games on Sunday's or Monday’s
of long weekends.
How
many games do you play in a night?
On most nights, teams will play two games, either against
the same team in their division or against two teams across
divisions. Each game is approximately 70 minutes in length.
What
are the game times?
Four games are scheduled each Sunday night at 5:45, 7:00,
8:15, and 9:30. Weekday games are scheduled in the last three
game time slots. There are only three games on Mondays and
Tuesdays because the earliest game time is too difficult for
members to accommodate.
Where
do we play?
The MMRSL has used up to 7 diamonds in the Mississauga area
and you can find more details about the Parks section of this
website.
What
calibre is the league?
The league has a range of team caliber's. Each of the recreational
teams have individual members put on them in such a way to
even out the level of the teams. The recreational division
would be made up of mainly "E" teams with some low
level "D" teams. The team entry teams have control
over their players levels and tend to be about "D"
level with some "C" level teams.
Does
the league have any events?
The MMRSL holds a few events each year for it's members. Each
year in June, there is the MMRSL Invitational Slo-Pitch Tournament
held out of Dunton Athletic Fields on Kennedy Rd. in Mississauga.
Additionally, there are meetings throughout the year for all
members to voice their opinions and ideas. In November each
year, the MMRSL holds an Annual Banquet in Mississauga, with
over 90% of members surveyed wanting one each year. For more
information regarding any upcoming events please reference
the Meetings/Events
section of this website.
What
are the league fees?
Reviewed by the Executive Committee each year, the fees for
the 2007 season were $160-$165 and included all your games
and related costs (diamonds, umpires, bases, spikes, equipment
bag as needed, game balls) and the League banquet. Refunds
are not issued to players if they don't play all of their
games or take advantage of the banquet. Circumstances under
which refunds are issued are outlined in the Rules/Constitution
section.
